FOURTH AVENUE PUBLIC PARKLET

Portland, OR is full of small, private parklets known as street seats--discrete design exercises that reclaim a portion of the street for humans.  Most of these parklets belong to private enterprises--primarily restaurants--and are reserved for paying patrons.

Portland State partnered with the SoMa (South of Market) EcoDistrict to design and build Portland's first public parklet, free for anyone to use.  The parklet was designed and built entirely by students over an 18-month period.

Role: Project management, construction supervision, design-build instruction
