ENVISION MAIN STREET

Capitol Hill in Oklahoma City is a changing neighborhood in a changing city--emblematic of many cities across the United States experiencing growth and gentrification.  While economic growth and reinvestment is unequivocally a positive thing, in many places, the rapid rate of change has exacerbated extremes in housing affordability and racial tension. Healthy neighborhoods are socioeconomically and culturally diverse, walkable, safe, with a variety of businesses and housing types. Envision Main Street aspires to determine ways that the intentional design of the built environment can help Capitol Hill bridge racial and socio-economic divides to become a thriving and healthy 21st century urban neighborhood.

This community visioning process used a variety of engagement tactics including focus groups, brainstorming exercises, and hands-on making to build a conversation about what the neighborhood could and should become.
